Join us as we commemorate Juneteenth 2021 with our next featured event in the NYU BeTogether Global Scholars & Innovators Series: A Juneteenth Conversation Reflecting on the Legacy of Ralph Ellison. In addition to being the award-winning author of Invisible Man and Juneteenth: A Novel, Ralph Waldo Ellison was the first African American to be appointed as the New York University Albert Schweitzer Chair for the Humanities. This year will mark the 50th anniversary of his faculty appointment. In celebration of his achievements, a panel of scholars will share important perspectives, thoughtful insights, and diverse opinions on the impact of Ralph Ellison and the ways in which his legacy matters in the context of cultural criticism, literature, and society. Panelists include Dr. John Callahan (Ralph Ellison Estate), Dr. Sybil Cooksey (NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study), and Dr. Kirk “Jae” James (NYU Silver School of Social Work). Moderated by Dr. Lisa Coleman. Introduction and closing remarks by the Ralph Ellison 50th Anniversary Advisory Board Co-Chairs, Allen M.
